P.V. Pedals Ride, Thursday 6/2/2022
With rain once again in the forecast, Thursday’s 20 mile route will have several options to shorten the ride. The route I mark out will simply take you to Old Gregg School in Spring Mills and back to Millheim along the Creek Road, which is very level. If you want to make a harder route, use Beaver Dam Road, Paradise Road or Long Lane on your return from Spring Mills.
We’ll go straight through the light in Millheim and follow the road, turning right onto PENNS CREEK RD in Coburn. Follow for several miles into Spring Mills as it changes into COOPER ST. Start the turn around by turning left onto LONG ST, right onto SCHOOL RD, right at the stop sign (…sorry Riddle’s isn’t open!) onto WATER ST and bearing right back into Spring Mills. Finally, turn left back onto LONG ST and follow the same route in reverse to return to Millheim.
Take a right onto Paradise Rd. At the top, turn right onto Big Oak Ln. Either take another right onto Long Ln back to Penns Creek Rd, or stay straight as Oak Ln turns into Long Ln, right on Mill Street and Left on Penn back to Elk Creek. Or…go as far as you like on Penns Creek Rd and simply turn around when you’re ready.
Check out the route link below in case our route arrows get washed off.
Please be cautious on wet roads.
As peaceful and beautiful as Penns Valley is, during the ride please share the road, communicate with each other and above all, stay in your lane on turns and at the crest of the hills!
If we cancel, please look for an email by 4:00 Thursday with an update. If we cancel, we will still have jerseys available for sizing inside Elk Creek from 5:15-6:00.
UPDATE TO ROUTE!
Before I show you the route this week I want to take a minute to share something with the club. I get scared at the start of every weekly PV Pedals + Pints club ride. Yes, scared because I fear someone is going to get hurt…or worse.
This week we are riding one of our favorite routes, but for a different reason. Thursday we are “Pedaling for a Purpose” – with the purpose being the Dan Stearns Foundation. Please read the article to learn about how much more there was to Dan than just one of our weekly riders.
We’re riding to Madisonburg this week in Brush Valley. The route is rightfully named, the Brush Valley Reverse. This route takes us through the Millheim Narrows. I’ll once again try and arrange with Ed from the Millheim Fire Company to follow us through the Narrows for a enjoyable start to the ride. We are on our own for the return ride. Feel free to alter the route if riding in the Narrows makes you uncomfortable.
