6/5/25 – Miles for Mark Celebration Ride (Bobbie’s Kitchen)
On Thursday, June 5, 2025 (rain date June 19) we will be holding our annual Miles for Mark bike ride. As many of our long-time members know, our bike club is more than just a group of cyclists, it is a community bound by experiences and memories. Today, I would like to take a moment to share a story with our new riders of the past two years about a founding member of our bike club, my brother Mark Rupert.
For 13 years, Mark bravely battled cancer, enduring countless treatments and hardships. Despite his struggle, he remained dedicated to our bike club.
Every week during our bike season, without fail, he would greet you at the registration table and explain to any new riders how our club worked. Mark would then head out on the route as our Support Vehicle, providing water and encouragement to riders who needed a helping hand or a short rest. His dedication to the bike club was truly inspiring. He looked forward each week to seeing everyone.
Sadly, Mark passed away in February 2023, leaving a void that is deeply felt by those who knew him. While many of the new riders may not have had the chance to meet him, his spirit will always be a lasting part of our club. In his memory, we dedicate one of our weekly rides each year to honor his contributions and celebrate his life.
We invite all of you to join us on this special ride, to remember the perseverance and kindness that Mark embodied, and to keep his memory alive within our biking community.
Thank you for being a part of this club and for helping us honor a truly remarkable individual.
-Roy Rupert
