8/1/24 – Take Immel Back

Local Charity Highlight
Millheim Pool + PV Triathlon
As many of you know, proceeds from your $3 contribution each week go to local charities ($19K donated since 2016). One of these is the Millheim Pool, a community resource that hosts a summer swim team of over 150 kids, swim lessons, exercise classes, lap swim, community nights and overall general family fun. The community has really stepped up in volunteer hours and doing whatever they can to keep it open and we’re proud to support them, as well.
So…lets see how many PVPP riders we can get to help support the pool this Saturday by swimming, riding and/or running!!
Saturday, August 3rd @ 8am
The Penns Valley Sprint Triathlon is a fundraiser that raises money for the pool, as well. And it’s NOT hard to participate! The distances are reasonable for most. With the full triathlon at only a 300yd swim and the Super Sprint Triathlon at 150yds…6 lengths of the pool (and yes, you can put your feet on the bottom and walk the entire way!). And there’s an Aqua-Bike option where you don’t even have to run!
Here are the many ways to participate in the very fun, low pressure event! AND you’ll see a lot of friendly faces from Pedals and Pints along the way – including PVPP board members Roy and Jim volunteering and Erica participating…and many more from our club that have said they’re signing up!
Sign up as an individual participant or get a relay together. Choose from:
- Individual Sprint Triathlon (300yd swim; 14 mile bike; 3 mile run)
- Individual Super Sprint Triathlon (150 swim; 7 mile bike; 1.5 mile run)
- Individual Aqua-Bike (Swim-Bike only!)
- Adult Relays
- Youth Relays
Get more info and pre-register by TUESDAY (tomorrow) and save $10. You can show up the day of and pay full price, as well. See you there!!
Hey All!
You’ve got choices this week! There’s not really a short cut, but there is an easier route if you’ve just had it with the hills over the past two weeks. For those of you still up for the challenge, we’ve got an almost mile long climb to keep your heart pumping.
We’ll take Long Lane (PLEASE stay in your lane and to the right) and head into Spring Mills, turn around and you can either take Immel to Orndorf to Oak before mostly coasting back into Millheim, or take the flat route along Penns Creek Rd and back to Millheim (see details below).
Park: Behind the Millheim Fire Co. in the grass.
Bring: A bike (any will do, even e-bikes!), helmet, and water bottle; $3 donation requested (cash or credit accepted) – proceeds benefit local charities.
Waiver: You must sign a waiver once each year. Download ahead/Print here.
Ride Smart! Single file as cars approach/pass, leave room for other riders to pass, stay to the right cresting hills and around curves. STAY IN YOUR LANE!
We’ll cheers with beers Elk Creekside afterwards. Food will be available from the trailer. You are also welcome to pre-order from the main menu for pickup inside at the bar after the ride (approximately 7:30pm depending on your speed).
Thanks and see you Thursday!

Take Immel Back Route
This is a NEW Route (17.6 miles): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47785849
Easy Option (18.6 miles): On the return from Spring Mills, instead of turning left off of Penns Creek Rd to head toward Immel, stay straight on Penns Creek Rd and go back the way you came.
Easier Option (21 miles): Make it even easier and stay on Penns Creek Rd to Coburn. Turn left and head back to Millheim.

For those that have not ridden with us, these rides are at your own pace. We mark the course, but it’s smart to download the route through the Happy Valley Ride with GPS link provided in case rain washes our markings away. Call Roy/the Support Truck number if you are lost or can’t finish your ride for ANY reason. 814-360-0243
