RIDE CANCELLED – due to weather and expected road conditions.

Hey All!

We’re headed through The Millheim Narrows this week into Rebersburg for the Back Road Route. We’re working on getting an escort from the Millheim Fire Company so they can follow us through and hold off traffic. Regardless, please stay in your lane and prepare to ride single file as cars and other riders pass. It’s called “The Narrows” for a reason!

A few reminders, especially for our new riders…
We have a few – potentially different – rules for riding in Penns Valley. We have less traffic, but roads are NARROW with few shoulders. So our guidelines may be different than what you’re use to.

  1. Please do not take over an entire lane or road. We know taking a lane is a tactic in other areas, but here, with our narrow, windy roads, it creates dangerous situations. Cars often do not stay in their lanes. And if there isn’t room to pass in your lane, please wait!
  2. Ride to the right. Always stay to the right even when riding 2-wide. Do not ride close to the center line. Leave plenty of room for other riders and cars to pass.
  3. Do not pass on crests of hills. This one makes our stomachs flip! And we see it far too often. If you can’t see what’s coming, the car coming at you at 35mph can’t see you either. Stay right – downshift if you have to – and pass only when it’s safe.
  4. Use verbal cues – “On the left” let’s people know you’re about to pass. “Car back” let’s people know a car is approaching from behind. “Car up” let’s people know a car is coming towards you. This gives people time to prepare themselves for your approach and move into single file formation if needed.

REMINDERS:
Park: Behind the Millheim Fire Co. in the grass.
Bring: A bike (any will do, even e-bikes!), helmet, and water bottle; $3 donation requested (cash or credit accepted) – proceeds benefit local charities (Millheim Pool, Millheim Fire Company, Penns Valley Library, Hope Fund, PV EMS, PVCA, etc.).
Waiver: You must sign a waiver once each year. Download ahead/Print here.
Ride Smart! Single file as cars approach/pass, leave room for other riders to pass, stay to the right cresting hills and around curves. STAY IN YOUR LANE!

We’ll cheers with beers Elk Creekside afterwards. Food will be available from the trailer. You are also welcome to pre-order from the main menu for pickup inside at the bar after the ride (approximately 7:30pm depending on your speed).

Thanks and see you Thursday!
-Roy Rupert

For those that have not ridden with us, these rides are at your own pace. We mark the course, but it’s smart to download the route through the Happy Valley Ride with GPS link provided in case rain washes our markings away.
